Repositioning of the buccal fat pads is performed to restore midfacial volume. Most commonly, they are transposed to the region of the nasolabial fold. This technique, however, is only indicated when there is sufficient soft tissue volume available. Otherwise, it may lead to a more pronounced submalar volume deficiency.
